Solemn Reflection and an Invitation on this Lady Day

The Feast of the Annunciation, or Lady Day, as this day is referred to in England, is upon us. On this day of solemn reflection, we remember that the Annunciation represents Christ’s Incarnation. When Mary signaled to Gabriel her acceptance of God’s Will, Christ was conceived in her womb through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Society of Mary is one of several Catholic devotional societies within the Anglican tradition, honoring Her whom God has honored, the Virgin Mother of His incarnate Son, Jesus; thus bearing witness to His holy incarnation. This witness to and emphasis on the dogma of the Incarnation, is expressed in devotional and liturgical practices, designed to enrich and enhance the discipleship and spiritual lives of our members, and the worship and mission of the Church.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said: “Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women”. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her:” Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest”… And Mary said:” Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word”. And the angel departed from her. (Lk 1,26-38)
